On the occasion of the 262nd Nepali Army Day, the Embassy hosted a reception at its premises this evening. The reception was attended by General Sir Roly Walker, Chief of the General Staff, H. E. Mr. Chandra Kumar Ghimire, Ambassador of Nepal to the United Kingdom, and over 150 guests from various sectors including London-based Defense Attachés from friendly countries, government officials, military officers, media persons, and members of Nepali diaspora in the United Kingdom.
During his remarks, H. E. Mr. Chandra Kumar Ghimire recalled the illustrious history and enduring legacy of the Nepali Army. He also underlined the contributions of the Nepali Army in safeguarding Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and protection and promotion of national interests and commitment to serve the larger interests of entire humanity.
Ambassador Mr. Ghimire also highlighted the unique tradition of the Gurkhas serving in the British Army. The Gurkhas have remained an enduring and visible link between our two countries for over two centuries. While recalling the cherished history of Nepali army and its long-standing association with British Army, the Ambassador also extended his compliments to the British Government for their consistent support to Nepal and the Nepali Army.
General Sir Roly Walker, Chief of General Staff of the British Army and the Chief Guest at the event, expressed happiness about the long-standing relationship between the Nepali Army and the British Army. He also commended the dedication, loyalty, and professionalism of the Nepali Army and shared his commitment to further collaboration and cooperation in the future.
Earlier, in his welcoming remarks, Military Attaché Colonel Anup Shah recalled the unconditional sacrifices made by the Nepali Army at important junctures of history. He also delivered a brief presentation showcasing the major contributions of the Nepali Army to global peacekeeping, training exercises, humanitarian endeavours, and development initiatives. Video clips of the activities of the Nepali Army were featured during the reception.
