The Embassy of Nepal in London and the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu jointly organized Nepal Night, a storytelling event at the Embassy on Friday, 6 June 2025.

The event commenced with Mangal Dhun performed by a group of Nepali artists, followed by the national anthems of Nepal and the United Kingdom. A documentary video showcasing Nepal’s breathtaking natural landscapes, rich socio-cultural heritages, diverse cuisine, among others, was also displayed on the occasion.  

His Excellency Mr. Chandra Kumar Ghimire, Ambassador of Nepal to the United Kingdom welcomed the participants with his opening remarks. In his remarks Ambassador Ghimire emphasized that Nepal is home to “myriad of breathtaking wonders waiting to be discovered” and requested the participants to visit Nepal to experience natural beauty, vibrant culture and rich historical tapestry. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board highlighted natural, spiritual, cultural, and social dimensions of Nepal’s tourism and reiterated his commitment to “offering journeys that are not just trips but transformative experiences”. He underscored that Nepal believes in “sustainable and responsible tourism that uplifts communities and preserves the very treasures that make Nepal unique”. Mr. Joshi also expressed his interest in connecting and collaborating with interested parties in the field of tourism and invited the people of the United Kingdom to visit and explore Nepal. 

Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, Director General of the Tourism Department of Nepal also highlighted some of the strategic interventions taken by the Government of Nepal to revitalize the tourism industry. He also urged the participants to “take advantage of a lifetime experience” and assured that the government will “ensure required facilitation for both travelers and investors”.

During the event, three storytellers delivered presentation largely covering three main themes: mountain climbing and the natural beauty of Nepal; the history, art, cultural heritage, and myths and realities of the Kathmandu valley; and Nepal’s exemplary conservation efforts for Tigers and other wildlife. Mr. Mingma David Sherpa, the invincible mountain climber, spoke on ‘The Saga of Mountain Climbing in Nepal’. Mr. Sanyukta Shreshta discussed 'The Kathmandu Valley: A Shangri-La of Monumental Heritages' while Dr. Amy Fritz Maurice presented 'Nepal: A Great Home of Tigers, amidst Disappearance Elsewhere'.

Several participants shared their unique experiences, observations, and understandings about Nepal. Mr. Nick Hinton, the President of Britain Nepal Society highlighted Nepal’s community forestry program, which is one of the most effective community-led initiatives in Nepal. Additionally, representatives from the aviation sector also shared their plans to establish direct flights from the UK to Nepal in the future.  While others reflected on the simplicity of rural life in the mountains and hills of Nepal.

Various artists featured Nepal’s ethnic and unique cultural performances such as Kumari dance, Sakela dance, Khukuri dance and musical performance such as Resham Firiri. Ambassador Ghimire and CEO Joshi also felicitated the storytellers with Certificates of Appreciation and Mementos.

Nepal Night was attended by over 120 participants, with a significant number of foreign audiences including travelers, mountain climbers, conservationists, nature experts, influencers, travel and tour operators, media persons, and Nepal lovers. The Embassy also hosted a networking reception and dinner for the attendees.
