Press release on the Celebration of Everest Day 2026

The Embassy organized a special program to celebrate Everest Day 2026 at its premises on 28 May 2026. The theme of this year’s event was ‘Sagarmatha: Identity and Pride of Nepal’.

Welcoming the participants, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Bipin Duwadi emphasized the role of British mountaineers and explorers in promoting Nepal’s mountains, sustainable tourism soft power. Recalling the historic bond between the people of two countries and role of British expeditioners and mountaineers people to Nepal’s Himalayas, he encouraged the participants to contribute to promoting Nepal and its adventure tourism.

BBC’s Global Environment Correspondent, Nabin Singh Khadka delivered a brief presentation on ‘Climate Crisis and the Himalayan Task’ highlighting the growing environmental challenges facing the Himalayan region and underscoring the importance of global cooperation for mountain sustainability and climate resilience.

The program also included a storytelling session by the Everest summiteers and mountaineers, who shared inspiring experiences and reflections from their journeys to the world’s highest peak. They also emphasized the important role of mountain tourism in promoting cultural exchange, supporting local livelihoods, and strengthening Nepal’s international image.

As part of the program, a promotional video from Nepal Tourism Board showcasing majestic beauty, and mountain ecosystem and heritage was screened. In addition, a short promotional video on Nepali tea was also presented, highlighting Nepal’s emerging tea industry and its growing international potential.

The event brought together above 85 participants including diplomats, Everest expeditioners, researchers, explorers, Nepal lovers and media persons, of whom more than 45 were Everest summiteers.
